"Many parallels exist between art as a practice and the idea of embarking upon a journey. Both may start out planned and precise with an intended destination in mind. Yet both art and journeys tend to be unpredictable, taking you to places not originally anticipated. Both share an element of surprise and both embody a spirit of discovery. Immersing oneself in art, either as a creator or a consumer, can lead to realization of universal truths. In much the same way, the act of going, whether it be toward or away from someplace or something, almost inevitably leads to greater understanding of self, others, and the world outside. It is with this synergy in mind that I have developed a body of work tied together by the concept of "journey". My definition is purposefully broad, encompassing everything from the mundane to the historical, from the abstract to the concrete. I have attempted to be inclusive of subjects both uplifting and sobering. This diversity of experience is further punctuated by the use of many different materials. Watercolor, chalk pastel, magazine cutouts, discarded paper, travel ephemera, fabric, pencil, and ink are brought together in each piece to take the viewer along a varied but definitive path."
